Welcome to Understanding Birth 8 hr eClass, a unique online learning experience that provides comprehensive information you can trust as you prepare for your upcoming birth.

 In this Eclass you will learn about common medical interventions that are used during labor, including their benefits and risks.

• Why IV's are used and how you can stay mobile with one
• Your medical pain relief options
• Procedures that help your baby through the birth canal

 In this class, you will learn why a cesarean birth may become necessary and what to expect before, during, and after the surgery.

• Medical reasons for planned and unplanned cesareans
• The basic surgery steps demonstrated using animation
• Benefits and risks of cesareans
• Tips that may help you avoid a cesarean
• Creating a special experience in the operating room
• What to expect from your recovery

In this Eclass, you will learn about newborn medical procedures, what your newborn might look like, and how they will respond to the world around them.  

Topics include: 

• Routine hospital procedures 
• Installing a rear-facing infant car seat 
• Questions to ask when choosing your baby's healthcare provider 
• Common characteristics of newborns 
• Baby behaviors 
• Reducing the risk of Sudden Unexpected Infant Death Syndrome (SUID)

 In this Eclass, you will learn what to expect during the first few weeks, including your recovery at the hospital, tips for easing the transition home, and important breastfeeding information.

• How your body heals, and warning signs of possible problems
• Normal postpartum emotions, and signs of more serious postpartum mood disorders
• New-parent survival tips
• Basic breastfeeding information
